Business and funding opportunities for women's enterprises

48 hours to promote female expertise

27 Jun 2019 - 00:00:00
In Burkina Faso, women's entrepreneurship is still at an embryonic stage because of the many obstacles hindering the creation or development of women's businesses. According to the House of Enterprise, in 2015, out of 8,561 formal businesses registered, women owned 1,830 businesses, a rate of 21% compared to 79% for men. Thus, this rate, in 2016 and 2017 was respectively 19.72% and 18%, despite the actions taken to boost female entrepreneurship. With the existence of a panoply of financing structures, most women lack the information to access the funds necessary to start their business. Added to this, among other things, are the weak technical capacity of women to design bankable business plans, poor mastery of credit mechanisms, difficulty in mobilizing guarantees, lack of marketing and sales strategy. To remedy this situation, the ministry in charge of women is organizing from June 20 to 21, 2019 in Ouagadougou at the Comptoir Burkinabè deschargers (CBC) the 48 hours of business and financing opportunities for women entrepreneurs. “These days are part of the promotion of products from women's businesses. During the two days of work, it will be a question of informing the participants on the mechanisms of access to financing, bank guarantees, of strengthening commercial links with promoters, of forging partnerships, of sharing their experiences in terms of entrepreneurship and business model. In short, this meeting is intended to be a platform for exchanges, co-creation for innovation and entrepreneurial culture”, explained the Minister in charge of women, Marie Laurence Ilboudo.
