On the 11th and 12th November 2019, the EAC 50 Million African Women Platform conducted a 2-day meeting in Dodoma, the political capital of the Republic of Tanzania to showcase the content of the platform. The objective of the meeting was to showcase the content to key stakeholders for them to give their feedback before the platform launch planned towards the end of the month of November, 2019. Hon. Christophe Bazivamo, the EAC Deputy Secretary-General in charge of Productive and Social Sectors who opened the meetings called upon participants to make sure they understand, own and can promote the platform among women in business. “Make sure the women you represent can move digitally.’’ He said Mobilize them to cope and be on board because technology has become part of life; he continued. After opening remarks, the participants were taught how to download and open the platform using their smartphones or their laptops. Participants were happy with the platform content and features but had a feeling that platform would have much impact in the EAC region if its interface was in Kiswahili, a language spoken by many people in the region. They also expressed the need to prioritize government institutions on the list, when it comes to listing service providers. The Government is the service provider number one, they said. Hence by the end of the meeting, each participant was able to access and download the 50MAWSP mobile application from their smartphones. The meetings saw the participation of people from various key government sectors including Education, Trade, ICT, Youth, Agriculture, and Foreign Affairs. On day two, the meeting brought together representatives from Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the private sector. -END- By Anna Hans Makundi, Lead Content Developer for the Republic of Tanzania
