The famous Bissau-Guinean singer, Karyna Silva Gomes Cerqueira, was elected on October 19 at a gala held in New Jersey, the best female artist of the African Countries of Portuguese Language (PALOP) by the African Entertainment Award USA ( AEUSA). AEAUSA is an event that has been honoring African excellence since 2015 and brings together big names from Africa and the diaspora each year in the United States for the awards ceremony. This organization honors practitioners from all sectors of craft and industry, including entertainment, entrepreneurship and community leadership. Karyna Silva Gomes was born and raised in Bissau in a family of musicians. She is a journalist trainer. She started singing gospel with the Rejoining Mass Choir in 1997, when she was a student in Brasil, but her passion for music dates back to a very young age. In 2007, he joined the historic and revolutionary Bissau-Guinean group quotSuper Mama Djomboquot and participated in the recording of the group's last album the same year, after having participated in several tours of the group around the world, while continuing at the same time his embryonic solo career. As a press advisor, Karyna has worked for UNICEF and SNV (Netherlands Development Organisation). In 2011, she decided to leave communication to pursue her musical dream and moved to Portugal where she took part in several major musical events alongside the big names in international music. And it was in Portugal that she recorded her first solo album entitled quotMINDJERquot, in French quotFemmequot. And it is with this album that was voted best female artist of PALOP 2019.
