As part of the Support Project for the Socio-economic Empowerment of Women in Burundi, the Minister of National Solidarity, Social Affairs, Human Rights and Gender, Mrs. Imelde Sabushimike, proceeded this Thursday, September 03 2020 at the official launch of the distribution of mobile phones to low-income women. It is through these telephones that these women grouped around the VSLA approach (Nawe Nuze in Kirundi) will benefit from the monetary transfer to raise their standard of living and contribute to the development of the country. 550 mobile phones have been distributed to low-income women, these are made up of repatriated women, Batwa women, women victims of sexual violence and those based on gender, including women living with disabilities. This project will give cash transfers for 6 months to these 5,500 women in 10 municipalities in the provinces of Cankuzo, Rutana and Karusi. In her speech, Mrs. Imelde Sabushimike advised the women beneficiaries of the project to make good use of these mobile phones and the cash transfer money they will benefit from. She also insisted that these phones and money are not the object of family separation but rather of family cohesion and development. It should be noted that this Project has supported the implementation of the National Women's Economic Capacity Building Program (2019-2027) which is funded by the United Nations through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) .

This is a great initiative however how will the phone be used in the family seeing as men like to control everything even when they have their own phone and money? Have families been sensitized before the phone distribution? I wish everyone well.
