According to data compiled by Lusa in the latest statistical report of the Bank of Cape Verde in August, the volume of Portuguese FDI in our country exceeded 542 million escudos (4.9 million euros) in the first quarter, a figure that compares to the negative record of 10.6 million escudos (96 thousand euros) for the homologous period of 2018. Portuguese investments in Cape Verde in the first quarter of 2019 were even higher than those of the quarters of 2018. Cape Verde recorded 9.3 billion escudos (84.1 million euros) in FDI last year, with Spain leading the way with 1,925 million escudos (17. 4 million euros), followed by Portugal (1,003 million euros). According to data from the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade, the Portuguese community in Cape Verde develops activities in the areas of commerce, including the distribution of food and beverages, hotels and restaurants, civil and metal construction. In the annual State of the Nation address to the National Assembly on July 31, Cape Verdean Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva said the international community considers Cape Verde quotan example of a democratic and stable country, safe, credible and reliable, with low political, social and reputational risks. “A country in which social peace reigns.
