THE INTERNATIONAL CRAFTS MARKET OF TOGO, THE MEETING FOR TOGOLESE CRAFTSMEN

THE MIATO, A POTENTIAL FRAMEWORK TO PROMOTE TOGOLESE CRAFTS

25 Oct 2019 - 00:00:00
The first edition of the Togo International Handicrafts Market (MIATO) announced a few months ago opened this Friday, October 25, 2019 on the esplanade of the Lomé Convention Center. For 10 days, craftsmen from Togo and countries of the sub-region, all trades combined will be honored. The kick-off of the activities was given with a caravan which criss-crossed the arteries of the city of Lomé. Placed under the theme quotinnovative crafts, factor of economic and social developmentquot and organized by the ministry in charge of crafts and the Union of Regional Chambers of Trades, the MIATO intends to shed light on the creative genius and the potential of Togolese artisans. It is also an opportunity to promote handicrafts while highlighting promising trades in this sector. This market also aims to create a framework for exchanges and know-how between craftsmen. Beyond the exhibitions of handicrafts, around 100,000 young people will be made aware during this first edition of the opportunities in the handicrafts sector through conference-debates. The event will be furnished with cultural activities, a competition, company visits and a TV set. For this edition more than 150,000 visitors and professional buyers from France, England, the USA among others are expected. Also expected at this market are artisans, craft businesses and commercial companies specializing in the sale of handicrafts from Togo and the countries of the sub-region. Access to the Market is open and free for all visitors. It should be noted that the organization of MIATO is part of axes 1 and 2 of the National Development Plan (PND) which envisage the organization every year of fairs and exhibitions for the promotion of handicrafts, making Togo a major center for business tourism in the West African sub-region and finally positioning the country as a premier commercial business center in the sub-region.
