TAKING GENDER INTO ACCOUNT IN DEVELOPMENT POLICIES IN BENIN CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR MONITORING-EVALUATION FOCAL POINTS OF THE MINISTRY OF PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT ON TAKING GENDER INTO ACCOUNT IN THE MONITORING AND PREPARATION OF DEVELOPMENT POLICY DOCUMENTS Despite their numerical superiority, 52% of the population, Beninese women are subject to various forms of discrimination that negatively impact their well-being. The status of women or that of men remains dependent on the patriarchal regime practiced in Benin, the influences of which maintain very strong inequalities between the sexes. Efforts made to respect international and national commitments to improve the place of women in the legislative, institutional, social and economic fields have had only a limited impact on gender inequalities. Women are more precarious and exposed to poverty and various studies have shown that gender inequality persists and constitutes a major obstacle to economic development. The Government, having taken the measure of the situation, understood the need to draw up development strategies by integrating the gender dimension. In its Action Program (PAG 2016-2021), it focused its actions on strengthening human capital, including the empowerment of women. It is within this framework that was held, from Tuesday July 2 to Thursday July 4, 2019 at the DJEGBA hotel, in Ouidah, the capacity building workshop for the Monitoring and Evaluation Focal Points of the Ministry of Planning and Development with technical and financial support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Provided by the UNDP Gender Program Officer, Ms Joséphine KANAKIN, assisted by a resource person Mr Benoit CHIBOZO, the training saw the effective participation of the Secretary General of the Ministry (SGM), Mr TASSOU Zakari, who chaired the work of the workshop and the Director of Programming and Prospective Mr Gérard KPATINDE. https://plan.gouv.bj/atelier-de-renforcement-des-capacites-des-points-focaux-suivi-evaluation-du-ministere-du-plan-et-du-developpement-sur-la-prise- taking-gender-into-account-in-the-monitoring-and-drawing-up-of-documents-d/
