47 MOTHER HEADS OF FAMILY FROM RIBEIRA DE SAO MIGUEL PRODUCE VEGETABLES TO SUPPLY THE HOTEL MARKET

27 Jun 2019 - 00:00:00
47 Heads of families in Ribeira de Sao Miguel produce vegetables to supply the hotel market. The ongoing Sao Miguel Socio-Economic Inclusion and Family Development Project is at a good pace and has a partnership with ICIEG to promote the inclusion and empowerment of women in this city. In addition, it is expected that women living in the countryside, mostly heads of households, will make their own land a more stable and efficient capital and source of income in order to transform them into a prison-eligible society. Thus, the project has budgeted in more than 175,226 USD and directly involves 47 women from Ribeira de Sao Miguel for a strengthening and consolidation of its activity with positive impacts. The ICIEG understands that women's empowerment is one of the objectives of mainstreaming and at the same time a strategy to promote gender equality and the full exercise of the rights of women and girls in economic spheres. In this sense, he reiterates his desire to increase the self-esteem of women in this project, considering the great importance of the economic activities developed by them as a considerable weight in the income of families. On the other hand, within the framework of the cooperation that the municipality of Sao Miguel has established with the municipality of Amiens-France, a team of specialists in the field of agriculture, is in Cape Verde to follow closely the implementation of the aforementioned agricultural project for inclusion among the women of the Sao Miguel River. Step by step, we will continue to mobilize and raise awareness about the importance of women's empowerment. Project partners: Hotel De Cameron da Boa Vista, two French NGOS, a local business, Sao Miguel City Hall, Ministry of Family and Social Inclusion, Cape Verdean Institute for Equality Gender and Equity (ICIEG) and the National Institute for Agrarian Research and Development (INIDA).
