Rwanda paves the way for success of the 50 Million Platform
Rwanda has launched a campaign dubbed Connect Rwanda to distribute 1 million smartphones to poor families across the country with the aim of increasing Rwanda's smartphone penetration. The Rwandan Gender Minister finds the distribution to be a strong factor for Project success.

Christophe Bazivamo, the East African Community Secretariat Deputy Secretary-General paid a visit to the recently appointed Minister responsible for Gender in Rwanda. Hon. Bazivamo briefed the new Minister on the objective of his visit which aimed at meeting her personally as the Ministry is a key stakeholder in the implementation of many EAC projects in the Country. DSG Bazivamo highlighted some of the achievements of the Regional Integration and reassured the Minister that the EAC despite some challenges has worked and reached a satisfying stage when it comes to integration. EAC DSG went on and introduced the 50 million African women platform Project which among many undergoing Projects that EAC implements in collaboration with Partner States. An online Project that aims at the empowerment of African Women entrepreneurs, Bazivamo explained This is a project that can benefit a lot of Rwandan women because the country is in the process of distributing smartphones to the population. People can register easily and access the platform easily; Minister Bayisenge explained to her visitor. For people to join, there is a need for awareness-raising, skills, and smartphones. Minister appreciates the idea of visiting her, understanding projects help to affirm ownership. We pledge full support of this project as people who work in the domain of women's economic empowerment. She requested EAC to invest more in awareness-raising and capacity building for the Project to achieve expected results. The Project is coming to building on already existing Government’s efforts, Minister appreciated ‘’When women are not economically empowered, they become vulnerable to all kinds of human rights violations, she concluded.
