Immigration information for Seychelles

Seychelles is a Visa-free country which means that there are no Visa requirements for any persons wishing to travel to the country. Although a Visa is not required to enter Seychelles, visitors should nevertheless have in their possession a valid passport or other travel documents recognized by the government of Seychelles in order to gain entry. The passport must be valid for the period of the intended stay until arrival back in the holder’s country of origin or residence.

A visitor’s permit is issued on arrival in Seychelles to travelers visiting for the purposes of holiday, business, visiting friends or family and who also meet the following criteria:

  1. is not a prohibited immigrant;
  2. is not a holder of a valid permit which entitles the holder to reside in Seychelles;
  3. holds a valid return ticket or ticket for onward travel for the duration of the visit;
  4. has confirmed accommodation; and,
  5. has sufficient funds for the duration of the stay (minimum of US$150 or equivalent per day).

The Immigration and Civil Status Seychelles opening and closing times are 08:30 and 16:00 hours respectively, from Monday to Friday. The ICS offices are closed on Saturdays and Sunday.

International Trade Zone

This permit applies to persons who are to be employed to work in the Seychelles International Trade Zones.

It is the responsibility of the prospective employer to apply for the permit through the Financial Services Authority, Seychelles. (FSA)

Gainful Occupation Permit

Living and working in Seychelles

All expatriate workers in Seychelles require a Gainful Occupation Permit (GOP). Without this, non-Seychellois are not permitted to work full time or part time, paid or unpaid.

A Gainful Occupation Permit (GOP) allows the holder to be gainfully occupied in Seychelles and this could be as an employee or as a selfemployed person.

In the first instance an approval certificate for the prospective non-Seychellois employee must be sought from the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources Development (MLHRD).

Upon obtaining the relevant approval from the MLHRD, an Applications for Gainful Occupation Permits should then be submitted to the Immigration office in Victoria at least one week before the employee is due to start work.

The same procedures as above should be followed for extension of validity of the GOP or change of post titles or duties.

The prospective employee must not enter Seychelles for the purpose of taking up employment prior to obtaining the Gainful Occupation Permit.

The application form is to be completed by the prospective employer. In the case of a self-employed, by the person seeking the permit.

It is strongly advisable that one consults the check list in the application form when completing the application to ensure that all documents being requested are submitted. Incomplete applications cause delays and will not be considered.
