Women empowerment in Seychelles

Women make half of the world's population, which is reason enough to empower women. Studies have shown women start small businesses faster than men. In Seychelles, women's life expectancy is longer than men hence more emphasis has been put in regards to bettering the lives of women for equal opportunities as their male counterparts. A number of institutions are involved in women empowerment initiatives and these are listed below.

COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB)

The COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB) was recently launched in the Seychelles. It is mandated to promote programmes that integrate women into trade and development activities in eastern and southern Africa. in particular, in the fields of industry, trade and services, agriculture, fishing, energy, transport and communications, natural resources and mining, with the main objective of improving the economic conditions of women in the sub-region as well as increasing the awareness of women in development and business issues at the policy level.

COMFWB provides women empowerment initiatives to help them develop in their business. For further information on their training programmes, contact the COMFWB Chairperson.
