Cross Border Trade in Tanzania

The East African Community (EAC) Customs Union and Common Market Protocols provide wider opportunities for cross border trade in the region.

The agreements by the EAC Partner states have established that any product manufactured in the region can be traded within the EAC bloc without being subjected to import or export duty or preferential tariffs.

The EAC partner states have also improved infrastructure in most of borders. In most border posts trade facilitating agencies such as the customs, immigration and certification services are housed under one roof, a concept known as the One Stop Border Post (OSBP).

This has made it is easier to process the important cross border trade documents for consignment clearance within 1-3 days.

In addition, the established procedures, structures and systems at each border provide security, efficiency and effectiveness in consignment clearance.
