Passport application checklist
- Birth Certificate, Affidavit of Birth or Certificate of Naturalization of the applicant;
- Birth Certificate, Affidavit of Birth or Certificate of Naturalization of the applicant's parent or parents;
- National Identity Card;
- 5 recent, clear passport size photographs;
- For adopted children, certificate of adoption is needed
Note: In case the applicant is below the age of 18 years, her/his parent or legal guardian must accompany the applicant.

Visa costs are determined by the type of visa applied for :
- Ordinary Visa: US$50
- Multiple entry Visa: US$100
- Business Visa: US$250
- Transit Visa: US$30
- Student Visa: US$250

How to obtain a Tanzanian Passport?
After filling the online application forms through the Immigration Portal, the forms are printed and then submitted to the nearest immigration regional offices available in all regions of Tanzania. There is a number of attachments such as certificates, birth certificates/affidavits, introductory letters from the local leaders and or employers, invitation letters and many other documents as deemed necessary the officer in charge.
Types of Passports
Tanzania issues 6 different types of Passports:
- Ordinary Passport
- Service Passport
- Diplomatic Passport
- Emergency Travel Document
- Certificate of Identity
- Geneva Convention Travel Document

Entry requirements and visa information
A Visa is a permission granted to a foreigner to enter and remain in the United Republic of Tanzania for a specific period of time for the purpose of visit, tourism, leisure, holiday, business, health treatment, attending conference or any other related activities recognized by laws of the country.
Types of visas
The Tanzanian Government issues 4 types of visas:
- Single entry of ordinary visa: Issued for single entry and valid for three months
- Multiple entry visa: issued to foreign visitors who come for Official visits, Government Missions, family re-union or any other circumstances
- Gratis Visa: issued for a single entry or multiple entries to a holder of diplomatic, services or official passport or Travel Document of recognized International Organization who is on official duty and their Dependents.
- Transit visa:issued to foreign nationals for the purpose of transiting through to another destination outside the United Republic for a period not exceeding 7 days.
- Business visa:issued to those expatriates who wish to come for short-term assignments lasts for 90 days
