From her youth, Ms. Uwera Claudine was passionate about fashion and entrepreneurship. Her initial ideas were to innovate the fashion and food sectors, and in March 2019, Uwera Claudine created UCOCO Brand (Uwera COCO de Claudine) Burundi to operationalize her ideas. This culture was chosen because on the one hand mushrooms are in legumes, on the other hand mushrooms can be used as Meat. The adverse effects of mushrooms are minimal in terms of their consumption and harvests are obtained after only 21 days after cultivation.

These products (Pearl, Clothes, Handbag) are made locally and do not present any danger to human health, therefore they are ecological products. For Mushrooms, they have multiple advantages especially in food balance and grow quickly.

Market Access.

UCOCO Brand products are sold in Bujumbura and inside the country. Others are sold outside of Burundi, especially via the internet. UCOCO Brand products also participate in international fairs. The products are also ordered via Instargram, Facebook and also contacts via E-mails. The raw materials come from Thailand, China and Dubai.

Job creation

UCOCO Brand started its activities in March 2019 with 10 girls but at the moment, UCOCO has more than 30 employees in less than 7 months of existence. With the cultivation of mushrooms, many people participate in the expansion of this culture inside the country. So, with UCOCO Brand, about 100 families in Bujumbura and the interior of the country live thanks to products from Uwera Claudine's innovations.

Project Development

Ms. Uwera Claudine started her project with a capital of 300 US Dollars. After 6 months of existence, UCOCO Brand collects about 4000 USD per month. This figure is growing every month because UCOCO Brand has multifaceted support at the local level and is already beginning its expansion towards the interior of the country.

Quantity produced per month

In terms of quantity, UCOCO Brand harvests approximately 500 kg of mushroom per day. These mushrooms are eaten in Bujumbura and in the interior of the country.

For Pearls, UCOCO Brand can produce 150 Pearls per month, and even more depending on the order.

The clothes are sewn according to the order, but in normal situation, UCOCO Brand can produce around 100 models of clothes per month.
