Business training in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Women entrepreneurs in the Democratic Republic of Congo are an undeniable economic force, because they actively participate in growth, innovation, job creation and the fight against poverty. More often these women encounter several economic, legal and socio-cultural constraints that hinder them from embarking on an entrepreneurial career. The lack of education and professional training for women excludes them from the development process. This is why several structures and organizations offer business training to women entrepreneurs and those who aspire to entrepreneurship.

The National Commission of Women Entrepreneurs of the Federation of Entrepreneurs of Congo (CNFE/FEC)

CNFE/FEC is a network of more than 300 women entrepreneurs who are members of the Federation of Entrepreneurs of Congo (FEC) and who carry out various economic activities in all the provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Assignment:

As one of the 19 structural and functional commissions of the FEC Board of Directors, the CNFE's mission is to:

  • Coaching of women entrepreneurs. Strengthen the entrepreneurial skills of women (knowledge of their product, know-how and being)
  • Promotion of commercial activities and productivity of women entrepreneurs. Make women's businesses known through the quality of the products or services sold.
  • Advocacy concerning all the problems that handicap the exercise and expansion of the sectors of activity of women's entrepreneurship in the DRCongo. Present to the various partners the constraints that hinder the launch and expansion of women's businesses.

The CNFE has set itself three main objectives:

  1. Inculcate business culture in women;
  2. Improve the quality of their products and services to be more competitive in the face of regional and international market requirements;
  3. Encourage the marketing of local products;

In order to achieve the objectives mentioned above, the CNFE has opted for the following strategies:

  1. Supervision by improving the skills and attitudes of women through various training courses;
  2. Advocacy with partners to encourage exchanges of experience and networking;
  3. Promotion through the connection of its members with customers and suppliers

The ACCESS program, dedicated to women and initiated by the International Trade Center, is the tool par excellence. Thanks to this tool, the CNFE has fulfilled its mission of coaching and has trained 1,400 women entrepreneurs since 2013 to date, after which it was able to extract a database of 101 bankable projects in the process of financing thanks to support with a subsidy from the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Following its evaluation of six years of activity, experience both in urban and rural areas with mainly mature women, the CNFE decided to broaden, in 2018, its field of action by supervising young girls in entrepreneurship; therefore justifying the establishment of a project incubator for the creation of young girls' businesses as well as an incubator, allowing young entrepreneurs to be accompanied in the formalization of their businesses, to benefit from technical support as well as only adequate advice and services to optimize the success rate of their businesses.

The organs of the CNFE consist of:

  1. 1 national office;
  2. 11 provincial offices across the DRC;
  3. 140 trainers, including 12 experts, spread across the country;
  4. 1 incubator for nearly 150 projects and 1 project incubator for young women with the capacity to house 18 entrepreneurs per season.

Currently, the CNFE has been entrusted with the implementation of two projects, the first of which is the RENAFER project consisting of the establishment of the national network of rural women, commissioned by ONUFEMME. As a second project, the quotDEFI OIF 180 daysquot, as its name suggests, is a challenge launched by the Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie whose objective is the professionalization of 100 women entrepreneurs in 180 days. and whose execution will be done in partnership with IF Entrepreneur.
