Ebola outbreak

The World Health Organization declared on June 25 the end of the Ebola virus epidemic in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This outbreak affected 3 provinces in eastern DRC: North and South Kivu as well as Ituri.

A new epidemic, the 11th recorded in the DRC, was declared on June 1, 2020 in the province of Equateur, precisely in the provincial capital Mbandaka. This province is located in the west of the DRC, 720 km from the capital of the DRC Kinshasa by river. The other cities of the DRC are not affected by this epidemic.

Social services in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Social services include a range of essential services to support women's rights, safety and well-being of women and girls who are victims of violence, including crisis information and helplines, psychological counseling and psychic, technical support for the promotion of women's activities, legal information and rights, as well as advice.

Ensuring access to basic social services is at the heart of the mandate and activities of many public and private structures, non-governmental organizations as well as specific programs in favor of women's rights and gender mainstreaming.


Health situation in the DRC

Since the Covid-19 pandemic and the opening of the borders, the movement of people, both arriving and departing from a city in the DRC , is subject to the obligation to present a medical certificate confirming the negative result. of the Covid-19 test. This test must be carried out no earlier than three days before the planned trip.
For an international trip departing from Kinshasa, the test must be carried out 72 hours before departure, with the travel document, at the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB):

In Lubumbashi, only the Grand Provincial Laboratory, representing the National Institute for Biomedical Research (INRB)/Kinshasa, is able to issue a medical certificate confirming the negative result of the Covid-19 test.

FMJC is a non-governmental organization for the rights of women and children, created in 2001 and restructured in 2013 under the legal number F92/17.871. Its main theme is the promotion of participatory and equitable governance of women at all levels of decision-making.

  1. Goals :

  • Contribute to the promotion and protection on the one hand, of the specific rights of women, children and the most marginalized people, and on the other hand to the emergence of social justice through good governance in the DRC;

  • Promote the culture of peace, through the fight against armed violence and citizen control of small arms and light weapons, as well as through the peaceful management of conflicts with a view to the long-term development of the DRC.

  1. Social services offered:

Training and education: FMJC organizes learning homes in its 4 target provinces which are:

  • Training in functional literacy (teaching young women to read and write in French as well as trades); and

  • Conscious literacy (teaching young women the ABCs of combat and women's rights, the legal instruments in force, gender, GBV, how to carry out advocacy with results, how to raise awareness of capacity change, how to take legal action in the event of litigation, in particular).

  1. Eligibility criteria and conditions of participation

  • Register in the learning center and be selected and then scheduled according to the session.
  • Be a young woman aged 18 to 35 and be a member or leader of a non-profit organization or any grassroots group (for awareness-raising literacy).
  • Be between the ages of 15 and 25 and not literate for functional literacy.
  • Be a resident of the sites in which the learning centers are organized.
