Ebola outbreak

The World Health Organization declared on June 25 the end of the Ebola virus epidemic in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This outbreak affected 3 provinces in eastern DRC: North and South Kivu as well as Ituri.

A new epidemic, the 11th recorded in the DRC, was declared on June 1, 2020 in the province of Equateur, precisely in the provincial capital Mbandaka. This province is located in the west of the DRC, 720 km from the capital of the DRC Kinshasa by river. The other cities of the DRC are not affected by this epidemic.

Social services in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Social services include a range of essential services to support women's rights, safety and well-being of women and girls who are victims of violence, including crisis information and helplines, psychological counseling and psychic, technical support for the promotion of women's activities, legal information and rights, as well as advice.

Ensuring access to basic social services is at the heart of the mandate and activities of many public and private structures, non-governmental organizations as well as specific programs in favor of women's rights and gender mainstreaming.


Health situation in the DRC

Since the Covid-19 pandemic and the opening of the borders, the movement of people, both arriving and departing from a city in the DRC , is subject to the obligation to present a medical certificate confirming the negative result. of the Covid-19 test. This test must be carried out no earlier than three days before the planned trip.
For an international trip departing from Kinshasa, the test must be carried out 72 hours before departure, with the travel document, at the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB):

In Lubumbashi, only the Grand Provincial Laboratory, representing the National Institute for Biomedical Research (INRB)/Kinshasa, is able to issue a medical certificate confirming the negative result of the Covid-19 test.

For women who are in other provinces, they can approach the authorized test center closest to their place of stay

Social Fund of the Democratic Republic of Congo - FSRDC

The Social Fund was created by Presidential Decree No. 009/2002 of February 5, 2002, as amended and supplemented by Decree No. 05/063 of July 22, 2005, in the form of a public establishment of a social nature, with of legal personality. It is placed under the High Authority of the President of the Republic who is its Honorary President.

Tasks

As an executing agency of the Government, the mission of the FSRDC is to participate in the reconstruction effort of the Democratic Republic of Congo by improving the living conditions of the Congolese population and by creating income and jobs in the rural and urban areas through the execution or establishment of income-generating micro-projects.

Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response Project – PRVBG

The implementation of this PRVBG project makes use of the flexibility of the World Bank's investment project financing policy towards fragile countries, so the PRVBG project contributes to the broader objective of reducing vulnerability. of women and girls facing GBV in the DRC, interventions specifically target provinces with high rates of GBV and also high levels of acceptance of GBV by women and girls. These provinces include: North Kivu , South Kivu, Maniema and Tanganyika

  1. Project objectives:

The Project aims to improve, in the targeted health zones:

  • Participation in GBV prevention programs;
  • GBV survivors' use of multisectoral response services
  • And in the event of an eligible crisis or emergency, provide immediate support and an effective response to said crisis or emergency.

  • Project components

The Project consists of four components which are:

  1. Prevention of gender-based violence and integrated support for survivors at the community level

This component supports:

  • The integrated implementation of a set of GBV prevention activities and targeted assistance to survivors of gender-based violence in the community
  • Support for income-generating activities and Village Savings and Credit Associations (AVEC)
  • The strengthening of the service offer and the creation of safe spaces in the community;

  1. Response to gender-based violence: This component is made up of two main sub-components:

2.a. Support for centers of excellence: This sub-component supports specialized referral structures at the Hospital, the Panzi Foundation in the provinces of South Kivu and Tanganyika; and to Heal Africa in the provinces of North Kivu and Maniema to provide the following services:

· Medical care, especially for the most complex cases;

· Collection and analysis of forensic evidence as well as training on these activities;

· Legal services;

· Basic psychological support;

Support services for survivors and children rejected by their families

· Mobile clinics in the most remote areas to reach the most vulnerable groups;

· Training and capacity building for health practitioners relating to complex surgical procedures, the collection of forensic evidence and the provision of quality health and psychological care;

· GBV operational research where appropriate.

2.b. Strengthen the health sector response to GBV: Under this sub-component, the main actions will be:

  • Training of health providers
  • Financing small renovations of health structures
  • Pay block grants to health structures and provincial health directorates in targeted provinces
  • Provide resources to the Provincial Health Directorates through the quotsingle contractquot
  • Supply health structures with specific drugs

  1. Support for policy development, project management, and monitoring and evaluation

This component is made up of three sub-components:

The first phase of the project is implemented in 4 provinces and their health zones:

  1. North Kivu: 13 health zones including:

Binza, Kayna, Mabalako, Alimbongo, Lubero, Kalunguta, Mutwanga, Nyirangongo, Rwangabu, Rutshuru, Kirotshe, Masisi, Mweso

  1. South Kivu: 12 Health Zones including:

Fizi, Kaniola, Kimbi/Lulenge, Shabunda, Lulingu, Minova, Lemera, Kalonge, Mulungu, Kitutu, Kalote, Haut plateau.

  1. Tanganyika: 5 health zones including: Kalemie, Niemba, Nyunzu, Manono, Moba
  2. Maniema: 8 Health Zones including: Kasongo, Kibombo, Kabambare, Kunda, Lusangi, Tunda, Samba, Saramabila
