Shenda Telli: dreams woven with silver threads to the heart of Europe

An old fairy tale among the people of an island in Sohag Governorate, states that there was a Pharaonic king named Will and his daughter Princess Shenda who was sick and doctors advised that she should go to an island in the south. The king named the island Shenda bint Will, which over time became Shendawil Island. Shenda Telli is the name of the commercial brand that reached the European and Gulf markets and was founded by Shaima Abdo Al Banouta, who in preparatory school started learning to spin silver threads, which is the origin of the Telli industry.

At the age of 18, Shaima started her small workshop, which she and her five sisters brought together, but she failed to market the Telli pieces. Two years ago, she tried until she heard from her friend about an exhibition in Cairo where they could present their work. With permission from her father, Shaima collected the pieces and traveled to the exhibition.

She succeeded in selling all the pieces at the exhibition, Then the surprise occurred, and it was an offer from the Emirates fashion house to Shaima. The dream began to grow more and more and the workshop was getting bigger and she was able to participate in many exhibitions with many of her products and she branded her products “Shenda Telli”.

These products were sent to Europe, and the workshop that was made up of her five sisters increased to more than 150 people. She was later able to travel to France by herself to sell her products, Currently, Shenda Telli is leading in the Gulf countries namely Italy, France and America. So from a small area in southern Egypt, Shaima was able to export her dreams woven with silver threads to the heart of Europe.
