Capacity building for women entrepreneurs in Madagascar

Capacity building for women entrepreneurs is fundamental in terms of business revitalization since it allows them to acquire the knowledge and skills essential to the growth of their businesses.
Capacity building thus enables women entrepreneurs to learn more about the workings of entrepreneurship, in particular: economic empowerment, access to information, technical and managerial capacity building, financial decision-making, reduction risks in the face of borrowings, maximizing the company's profitability.

  • Economic Development Board of Madagascar (EDBM): As an investment promotion agency, the Economic Development Board of Madagascar supports investors in their steps to set up and/or expand by providing them with dedicated services by Advisors specialized and also provides capacity building workshops, including Capacity Building Workshops in Entrepreneurship and Leadership for the Empowerment of Women and Youth held from 3 to 5 November 2019.

  • Group of Women Entrepreneurs of Madagascar (GFEM): Group formed into an association created in 2016, it brings together 12 Associations and several women entrepreneurs from several regions of Madagascar. The companies in which they operate are spread over several areas including agribusiness, manufacturing, mining, logistics, communication, etc. Their main missions are to promote female entrepreneurship and create business opportunities, build the capacities of associations of women entrepreneurs and their members, representing and defending the interests of women entrepreneurs through partnership networks and ensuring the monitoring, sharing and capitalization of information relating to women's entrepreneurship. The GFEM thus provides training workshops capacity building focused on a Coaching & Mentoring program, funded by the Australian Embassy, a Coaching program: technical, Marketing & Commercial funded by PROCOM-UE, Training Workshops, Team Building as well as Seminars .

  • Entreprendre au Féminin Océan Indien (EFOI – Madagascar: First network of Malagasy women entrepreneurs, created in 2007. The organization currently has 15 branches scattered throughout Madagascar and about 250 members. EFOI also turns to other women, especially those of the rural world. It is a partner of the Federasion'ny Vehivavy Tantsaha Malagasy (FVTM), the network of rural women, in favor of which it intends to bring its support and thus support the development of Malagasy women. EFOI Madagascar is one of the beneficiaries of the Malagasy private sector support program (PROCOM) funded by the European Union and also provides capacity building focused on the consolidation of basic skills and thus so that each woman entrepreneur can best promote their entrepreneurial activities.

  • National Council of Malagasy Women (CNFM): The CNFM is an quotumbrellaquot organization that brings together women's associations of all origins working on Malagasy territory. Apolitical, non-confessional, it exercises a role of consultation and mobilization within women's movements. Among these various areas of expertise, the CNFM also provides capacity building workshops aimed at empowering women.

  • Fanainga formerly known as the Multi-donor Common Fund for Support to Malagasy Civil Society: Fanainga is an innovative support program for Malagasy civil society, so that it can become a key player in development for people and of the most vulnerable and marginalized communities in Madagascar while encouraging the participation of women and young people. Fanainga thus offers learning-by-doing paths, networking paths, exchanges of information and experiences, multi-stakeholder dialogues, capacity building, funding mechanisms for innovative initiatives, specific to CSOs, in co-creation of a vision of change with the community, promoting citizenship and social and democratic accountability.

  • IECD: The IECD is a development aid organization which operates in fifteen countries in sub-Saharan Africa, in the Near East & North Africa region, in the Indian Ocean and in South-East Asia. Since its creation in 1988, the IECD and its teams have pursued their mission of “Sowers of the future” in the field. Entrepreneurs in human and economic development, they build, with local partners, environments favorable to the revelation of each person's talents. The ambition of the IECD is to provide beneficiaries with the essential know-how to improve their living conditions, become responsible actors in their country and contribute to making society fairer. The IECD has developed recognized expertise in 3 areas of intervention: Education, Training & professional integration, and Entrepreneurship. At the same time, since 2006 the IECD has been fighting a fight close to its heart: sickle cell disease.

Madagascar is a flagship country for the IECD, which has been implementing projects there since 1989.

Over time, the IECD has developed innovative solutions to meet the needs identified in the areas of access to education for children in rural areas and vocational and technical training for young people. In 2013, the IECD then started its support programs for small businesses in the suburbs of Antananarivo. The sickle cell disease program was also rolled out across the country in 2014.

  • FERT: Fert's mission is to contribute to the agricultural development of developing and emerging countries.   • INTERAIDE: In rural areas, Interaide runs 4 programs to strengthen the agricultural production capacities of rural families, in partnership with the Fagnimbona farmers' federation. These programs include two components: popularization of techniques and varieties (support for food production, establishment of irrigated micro-perimeters) and peasant structuring (training of grassroots groups).
